What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy?
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidence-based, rapid-healing approach to processing trauma and distressing emotions. ART uses bilateral eye movements to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories, shifting them from emotionally overwhelming experiences into memories that no longer cause distress. Unlike traditional talk therapy, ART does not require retelling or re-experiencing trauma in detail—it works by rewiring how the brain stores painful memories, allowing for lasting relief in a much shorter time.
Many people experience significant improvements in just a few sessions, making ART a highly effective and accessible option for those struggling with PTSD, medical trauma, attachment wounds, and chronic stress.
How ART Can Help
ART is a flexible and gentle approach that helps with:
PTSD & Trauma – ART is highly effective for both single-event trauma and complex, long-term trauma. It can help resolve intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, and distressing memories.
Attachment Trauma – Early relational wounds, neglect, and disruptions in caregiving relationships can leave deep emotional imprints. ART allows the brain to reprocess these experiences in a way that promotes healing and emotional security.
Medical Trauma & Chronic Illness – For disabled and chronically ill individuals, medical trauma is often an ongoing reality. ART helps process painful medical experiences, reduce anxiety around treatment, and heal the emotional wounds left by invalidation or neglect in healthcare settings.
Neurodivergent Individuals – Many autistic and ADHD individuals experience heightened emotional responses, sensory overload, and trauma from ableist environments. ART allows for non-verbal, body-based processing that aligns with neurodivergent ways of thinking and feeling.
Anxiety, Stress, & Emotional Overload – Whether caused by past trauma or current life stress, ART helps regulate the nervous system, reducing emotional overwhelm and restoring a sense of calm.
Why ART Works
Traditional therapy often relies on cognitive processing—talking about the trauma, analyzing it, and reframing thoughts around it. While this can be helpful for some, ART works differently:
It Rewrites the Brain’s Response to Trauma – Instead of just managing symptoms, ART helps the brain transform distressing memories so they no longer trigger an emotional or physical reaction.
You Don’t Have to Relive Trauma – ART does not require you to share details of traumatic events if you don’t want to. The focus is on how the memory is stored in your brain and body, rather than retelling the story.
It’s Fast and Effective – Many people experience relief in as little as one to five sessions, making ART one of the quickest, most effective trauma therapies available.
It’s Body-Based – Trauma isn’t just stored in our minds—it lives in our bodies. ART allows for deep healing by engaging the brain’s natural ability to process distress at a physiological level.
What to Expect in an ART Session
Identifying the Issue – We begin by discussing what you’d like to focus on, whether it’s a traumatic memory, a distressing emotion, or a physical sensation tied to past experiences.
Eye Movement Processing – Using guided eye movements (similar to REM sleep), ART helps your brain reprocess painful memories, changing the way they are stored.
Replacing Distress with Peace – ART uses a technique called Voluntary Memory Replacement, allowing you to replace traumatic images with new, empowering ones.
Integration – After the session, your brain continues to process and consolidate healing, leaving you with a sense of relief and emotional freedom.
Is ART Right for You?
If you have struggled with traditional talk therapy, feel stuck in your healing process, or want a faster, more direct approach to resolving trauma, ART may be a good fit for you. It is especially beneficial for those who:
✔️ Experience PTSD, anxiety, or overwhelming stress✔️ Have unresolved medical trauma or attachment wounds✔️ Are neurodivergent and need a non-verbal, body-based approach to healing✔️ Want an alternative to prolonged exposure or cognitive-based therapy
ART is a compassionate, effective, and accelerated approach to healing trauma. You don’t have to carry the weight of past experiences forever—your brain is capable of healing, and ART can help unlock that process in a safe, supportive environment.
